The Commercial Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is a report generated by an experienced and accredited electrical contractor that reports the current condition of the electrical installations within your premises. Although this report is not legally required, landlords and business owners are held accountable for the safety of their staff under the Health & Safety Work Act (1974).
A Commercial EICR is much more in-depth than a standard domestic one and requires a fully qualified, approved contractor to complete. We recommend that commercial businesses complete an EICR at a minimum of every 5 years and industrial businesses every 3 years, with thorough visual checks completed in-between.
An EICR will check for any electrical faults that may have occurred over time within your premises. A number of faults may be found such as electrical circuits being overloaded, overheating during use, poor initial installations and identifying any defective electrical work in the system.
You will also get a thorough visual check to provide a quick analysis. Things like broken sockets or light switches, damaged cables, burn or scorch marks will be highlighted within the report. It is important to note, the EICR is not a certificate and simply a report. This tool is used to highlight any electrical work that is unfit for purpose and could pose a threat to you and your staff.
Work required is classified by the following:
C1 – Danger present. Risk of injury. Immediate remedial action required
C2 – Potentially dangerous. Urgent remedial action required.
C3 – Improvement required.
F1 – Further investigation required without delay.
Codes C1 & C2 will attract an unsatisfactory report rating in which immediate action will need to take place in order earn a satisfactory rating.
